YouTube and Shorts

Upload videos and Shorts to your YouTube channel with a description written for search and a person's approval.

What you can publish

  • Videos
  • Shorts: YouTube treats a vertical video of up to three minutes as a Short

Writing and editing

  • Descriptions with a one-line summary first, then details, a call to action and up to 3 hashtags
  • Trim and fit videos in the browser, and compress large files before they are uploaded
  • A live preview of how the title and description will read

After it goes out

  • Comments arrive in the inbox to read and answer, if you allow it when you connect
  • Views and engagement are read back for 30 days after posting

Rules set by YouTube

  • Community posts can't be published by outside tools; YouTube offers no API for them
  • YouTube decides what counts as a Short: a vertical video of up to three minutes

Connecting

How the account is connected

Connected with Google's own sign-in. Only a refresh token is stored, sealed; each upload uses a short-lived token that is never saved.

Every post is approved by a person before it is sent, and you can disconnect the account in Channels at any time, which deletes its stored tokens. See Security and Data deletion.
